Theodore Francis MacManus is a man many regard as one of the best in advertising, the father of "soft sell". He firmly believed in himself, his power of suggestion, and the "metaphysics of advertising". Unfortunately, towards the end, he followed his heart and left the advertising business due to a conflict with his ethics. But along the way this man gained the adoration of many and left a lasting legacy for those in advertising and automobiles, two of the most important industries of the 20th century.
Henry Garrity--"MacManus was once introduced to an audience as "the greatest advertising man in the world." MacManus arose and said dryly:" I have a dear old friend who tells me that he knows a man in Troy, Ohio, who has the greatest collection of burnt match sticks in the world."
