In his formative years, Rob worked many odd jobs mostly in the hotel and restaurant service industry.  He served as a wine waiter, waited tables and did some cocktail bar duty.  Rob graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1978 with a Degree in Pure Mathematics -- and nearly made the mistake of going for his PH.D, which he is glad he did not as he may have been corralled into teaching.  On occasion, Rob enjoys a warm beer or a malt whiskey!

"It never occurred to me to look for a career in advertising."

After graduation, Rob left his home turf of Glasgow and made the trek to London.  A market research company, British Market Research Bureau (BMRB), caught his attention and lured him to the metropolis of London.  It was through the rigorous interview process that Rob knew he wanted to work in this field.  The interview consisted of coming up with creative problem solving techniques, which is most of what he did in his spare time.

"If this company asked these kinds of questions, it is my kind of company."

Rob spent two years at BMRB, "which proved to be a very good foundation for my advertising career."  After this, he moved on to work under a person whom became his mentor in the industry.
