| Apple Computer's classic 1984 advertisement, which introduced the Macintosh. |
|
Apple computer in 1984 was known for their powerful marketing campaigns and advertising. They not only manufactured the computers people wished they could afford to buy, but they manufactured the advertising we wanted to watch. One ad showed a woman warrior shattering a mammoth TV screen, which carried the gray image of a Big Brother-like speaker addressing a hopelessly captive audience. The act symbolized the freedom that the Macintosh computer would give users otherwise shackled to computers made by bigger rivals like IBM. According to my thinking, this campaign showed the best creativity in advertising history, creativity
that the ad people
should pursue and follow. There are several reasons why this campaign could be the most memorable creative campaign:
First, there was the right timing; this commercial was aired on the Super Bowl telecast that year. This commercial was aired just once, but people have been remembering it since that day. This suggests one important thing about creative advertising: When an ad is really creative, one-time exposure is enough to attract and convince the customers. |
