Publications Started by Rowell

· The Advertisers’ Gazette (1865):
Quarterly small newspaper intended to gather information from prominent trade magazines and newspapers about the use of the newspaper medium by advertisers. In addition, comments on important issues at the time concerning the use of that medium, such as the truthfulness of circulation figures, among others, were also conveyed. The Advertisers’ Gazette would become later the weekly American Newspaper Reporter.

· The George P. Rowell and Company American Newspaper Directory (1869):
Directory listed most important newspapers in the United States and Canada, as well as information concerning editors, and circulation. Although other directories of the same type had been developed by the time of its publication, it was the first one to be issued in consecutive years. In 1908, year of Rowell’s death, it was absorbed by the N. W. Ayer and Son’s American Newspaper Annual.

· The Printer’s Ink (1888):
Printer’s Ink was an advertising trade magazine that acquired a quite respectful image among advertisers of the time. During the years right before his death, in 1908, Rowell devoted most of his attention to the development of the Printer’s Ink. His dedication seems to have generated positive results, once Printer’s Ink acquired a wide distribution among advertisers throughout the years.
