Theodore Francis MacManus and Norman Beasley write about the first 30 years of the automobile industry in their book Men, Money & Motors - The Drama of the Automobile. The book is about the men who pioneer the industry. MacManus describes these pioneers and the business in his introduction through the following quote:
"There was a rugged picturesqueness to those pursuers of fame
and fortunes. They had about them something of the tang and flavor
of piracy. The stuff from which men are made heroic
was not altogether lacking in them. Big things were done and
the doers became big in the doing. "
