Consumers and their quest to control the internet and advertising

Introduction

The History of the Internet is quite complex and dates back to the early development of communication networks. It was originally intended to share data between a few universities and government agencies. But the Internet today allows connectivity for millions of users from anywhere on earth and beyond—even ships at sea and in outer space.

The Internet is worldwide and has created the world wide network of computers we know today. It initially spread throughout the technologically up-to-date Western countries and the gradually entered into developing countries, thus creating unprecedented worldwide access to information and communications. The Internet has graduated from a small network to a monster that fundamentally alters the world economy and makes communication easier than ever. Once used and controlled by few, the internet is now used by millions and is being taken over by consumers with consumer generated media. Only time will tell how consumers will control the internet and dictate how they are advertised to.
