It's a brilliant phenomenon...

Consumers marketing to other consumers, posting their opinions, sharing information and experiences, It’s certainly a giant leap from the intentions of the first internet which was simply to aid speeding up the information trading process and cut down on paperwork. The Internet has grown into a full-fledged community, complete with members, visitors, its own language, shopping, and even advertising.

Outdoor, Radio, and Television have all proven to be successful means of communication to consumers. The Internet on the other hand has evolved into more of a conversation, a way to communicate not just to, but also with consumers. Free and open access to information and techniques has allowed the Internet to grow and spread rapidly worldwide while the conglomeration of text, images, and video has allowed this medium to surpass TV, print and radio on the interactive plane. The Internet has morphed into a truly interactive media outlet allowing consumers to read, research, watch, listen, write, send, meet organize, post, program, purchase, and much much more. Now even common web surfers are now producing and editing their own materials, directly effecting the face of the once one sided medium and threatening the effectiveness of traditional media as well.

The question is, now that consumers have discovered their voice, how will they use it? And furthermore where does that leave the professionals?
