GSM: Global System for Mobility

What: An advancement on TDMA and CDMA in that it is a Global Standard for digital voice and data transfer. It basically uses a more sophisticated but standardized set of hardware and software to better manage the switching of voice and data

Access: higher quality voice and data transfers. Better support for data sessions and multimedia messages. Better access to services like SMS text messaging, three-way calling, etc…

Limitations: Difficulty for Innovation to 3G. Standardized hardware and software makes potential upgrades to higher bandwidth protocols more difficult.
