Introduction

Stanley Pollitt is considered by many to be the Father of Account Planning.

Account planning is a discipline in which the main goal is to "understand the 'why' of human behavior rather than the 'how' or 'what.'" (Tran, 1999) A planner acts as the "consumer's conscience" and represents the consumer throughout the whole development process of an advertising campaign. Planners have the knowledge of why certain people respond to specific advertising campaigns and not to others. (Tran, 1999)

Although Stanley Pollitt only lived to be 49 years old, he accomplished a great amount during his life. He helped to start a revolution within the advertising industry that would eventually effect advertisers and consumers across the continents.
