Conclusion
Advertisements should draw upon people's emotions in order to strike an emotional relationship with their audiences. It has also been said that advertising is supposed to reflect society. This means that advertising should be representative of the society's cultures and values in which it occurs. Advertising should also be representative of genuine situations within its society.
However, I feel there is a lack of minorities in advertising- both visually and in the business itself. This should not be, especially since minority groups in this country are growing at fast rates. Due to the lack of minorities in advertising, I do not feel that advertising truly mirrors life in its society.
However, I do feel steps are being taken in the right direction to help alleviate this problem. I see a higher number of minorities in advertisements, compared to numbers in the past. Also, multicultural advertising agencies seem to be growing and becoming more popular. Alas, I feel that my advertising peers at The University of Texas at Austin and myself will contribute positively toward making advertising a real mirror of society.
