His story
mid 1930 - 1952
n
this short period time, many things happened to L & T and to
Lasker to change the business. First, Lasker mentally lost his interests
in the advertising industry and physically lost his wife and health.
He finally decided to sell L & T to his three senior executives
and ceased the name of Lord & Thomas forever. The new company
started as Foote, Cone and Belding (FCB) to link L & T's advertising
spirits.
Gunther who wrote Lasker biography added several reasons why Lasker
ended his precious business that he was in love with for his entire
life. First, Lasker considered the new generations of advertising
were below his standards. Second, he felt the war would reduce consumer
consumption of the products that were his major clients. Third,
his son, Edward Lasker, would no longer be in the advertising business
for his father. After he retired, he devoted himself to public affairs
and philanthropy. He contributed to national medical research activities
and established the Albert and Mary medical foundation to support
medical research. His efforts perused the federal government involved
in the national health and raised the fund on the cancer research
in the United States.
